Four shuttle bus routes between Dubai International Airport and a host of hotels is being launched, with the first buses all set to hit the road tomorrow.
A round-the clock shuttle bus service dubbed ‘the Skybus’ will link Dubai International Airport with 26 of the most visited hotels in the emirate in a pilot project launched by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA).
For Dh15, the service includes snacks and drinks onboard, free WiFi and a direct link to the accommodation, explains Mohammed Al Ali, Director of Buses at RTA. “Tourists will be able to reach their hotels quicker and have plenty of space for big luggage.”
Tomorrow, the first shuttle buses will depart from Terminal 3. A bus will take off every 30 minutes, Al Ali explained. Four routes have been developed; one route will head towards Sheikh Zayed Road, a second route towards Al Barsha area, a third route to Burjuman area and a fourth to the Garhoud area.
Each shuttle bus will take about 30-60 minutes to pass by all the hotels en route and return, to pick up the next group of passengers. If the pilot proves successful, Terminal 1 will be added to departure stations, and 22 more buses will be deployed. The bus headway will be increased as the demand requires, explained Al Ali.
“We believe the demand will increase as the awareness grows, but we expect a high demand from the first week,” he added.
To board the shuttle bus, passengers must be able to pay for the trip fare with a Nol card, as no cash payment will be accepted. There will be no discount fares for children, except for the fare exemption for children under 6 years old, said Al Ali.
The Nol card can be purchased at the terminal and must be topped up with the sufficient balance for the trip. “All the information will be made available at the terminal. There is an RTA service desk, and there will be leaflets, banners and sign boards guiding the visitor into the right direction, explained Al Ali.
Further, tourists can make use of the same service when returning to the airport, but another Dh15 will be charged, he added.
